My wife bought this product before I read the reviews on it. After reading the review, I probably would have suggested that she not buy it. Upon its arrival, my wife noticed a small crack in one of the shelves. She decided to exchange it for another one, after I threw away the box. When the new one arrived, I was very careful to take a lot of pictures so that I could replace the pieces of the old unit in the box. It turned out to be a good idea that we didn't have the old box because I was able to take the better pieces between the two shipments during the assembly process. The first shipment was evidently mishandled because one end of the box was mangled. Interestingly enough, the second shipment seemed to have been handled by the same set of hands. I noticed that there were no covers to go over the exposed screws, as I had seen with other products like this one. After checking the Amazon website, I found out that the lack of covers was not an oversight by the packaging person. The instruction page lists the items that were included. The items were number sequentially, starting with #1. For some reason, the manufacturer decided to have two #5's and then jumped to #7, bypassing #6.I had to look carefully at the different panel and shelf pieces to figure out which was which. The was only one set of items that I was able to instantly identify. That item was the four legs, item #10. The manufacturer, for some reason, decided that these legs needed to be label with a small, sticky, #10 label.Someone else thought that this rack wasn't sturdy. But I think that it is sturdy and will serve its purpose. Would I buy it again? Probably. We've had this as a bookshelf and toy storage in our nursery for at least 6 months now and it is holding up well. It was very easy to assemble. It is heavy and sturdy enough that toddlers don't pull it over onto themselves, though I did leave the legs off and instead have it resting directly on the floor for added protection. Not using the legs also removes some of the height so they can reach the top while standing on the ground. Without the legs it's perfect for beside the reading chair. The first one was literally an empty box b/c it is packaged so badly. I refused delivery. The second one was terribly packaged but was miraculously not missing any parts. You are gambling with this one as to whether the whole thing arrives.IF you get all the parts, it is made mostly of bamboo or rubberwood or something for the most part and is surprisingly sturdy once you get it all together for the price. There is one shelf that is a particle board piece, the top shelf, and I'm a little concerned how it will hold up over time. Otherwise, it's cute and very much does the trick. We are using it as a charging station for all our laptops, tablets, ipencil, garmin watch, etc. The small vertical top shelves are perfect for phones, tablets, and such, and the bottom shelves are the right size for laptops. This was fast to assemble with two people. It’s looks nice and fits trades on the bottom shelves, and individual comics on the top. It is light weight but after I put trades on the bottom it is sturdy. It is smaller then you think and I will probably be getting a second one.The manufacturer sent a Maydear Bamboo Magazine Rack/Free-Standing Simple Bookshelf (3 tiers) to me for an honest review. The product was shipped via USPS in an oversized box. Upon opening the product box, I first noticed a small bag of metal screws, wooden dowels, and an Allen wrench. I found the paper sheet which shows a list of enclosed parts and assembly instructions. I noticed that there were a few typos, then discovered that the parts list used the number "5" twice for 2 different parts. Except for the 4 "legs" stickered as number "10", none of the other parts were stickered with their corresponding numbers, as shown on the parts list or the assembly instructions.Because I had never worked with bamboo wood before, the descriptions for each part were not very clear to me. This made the assembly process a bit challenging, and there was a lot of dis-assembly as well as re-assembly to correct any mistakes I made. I had 1 screw and 1 wooden dowel left, after finishing the assembly. The wood finish felt very smooth as I was putting the parts together. At some point, I over-torqued the screw for the front partition, which unfortunately caused the wood to split. However, this mistake does not seem to affect the function or sturdiness of the part I accidentally damaged. It just doesn't look as pretty, since the damaged part is on the front of the magazine rack/bookshelf.This is a 3 tier rack/bookshelf. The piece used for the top shelf is a laminate, held in place by the notches in the wood surrounding it. The top shelf is intended for magazine storage, which shouldn't stress the laminate base as much as heavier books would. The shelf bases for the 2nd and 3rd tiers are made of bamboo, which seems sturdy enough to withstand approximately 35-40 lbs. each.I placed magazines in their designated space on the top shelf, and books on the 2 lower shelves. This rack/bookshelf is functional, looks nice, and is perfect for small spaces.I got this because I thought the top magazine/book display portion of the rack was really different and neat, and I crossed my fingers hoping that the 2 other shelves would be great for housing some binders.. Thank goodness I was right because this thing is definitely a top favorite furniture item being so versatile and nice to look at as well. The finish is glossy smooth making it easy to keep clean and dust. This did not come with furniture pads so I added some felt stickers to the feet. There was a nick and a cracked piece, but thankfully they are in location that aren't noticeable to my eagle eye. Thanks and hope this helps!
